|Ashland Flats Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is located in Jefferson County and contains over 2,000 acres of vast open grassland, early successional growth, wetlands, and mature and intermediate forest. An accessible observation platform (planned for 2019) will overlook the impounded wetland and open fields on the WMA. The platform will allow ample opportunity to view waterfowl such as mallards, wood duck, teal, and marsh birds; grassland birds; and furbearer and game species.
Winter activities at Ashland Flats WMA include hunting, snowshoeing, and birdwatching. Because of the quality grassland, many bird species such as rough-legged hawks, northern harriers, short-eared owls, and snowy owls have been spotted wintering in this area.
