Arkansas lakes are home to plenty of largemouth bass.

Harris Brake Lake Resort reports they have way more crappie than they’ve had anglers lately. Maybe some of the brisk weather, wind and hunting have kept them away. But the ones who are fishing are having excellent success with crappie. Larry Walters at Brewer Lake tells us he’s seen lots of nice catches of crappie off minnows and jigs. They are about 6-8 feet and some are still on the brush top. If you can find a brush top that is 10-12 feet deep, you can catch a mess, he says. The lake is down about 4.5 feet. And our reports from the Maumelle and Little Rock pools of the Arkansas River also say they’ve gotten nice reports on crappie. Fish off the riprap in 5-6 feet of water. White/chartreuse Slab Buster jigs are working nicely, according to the folks at ZImmerman’s. McSwain informs us that crappie are in deeper water in the Little Rock pool.
