You’ll notice our newest addition to the weekly Fishing Report: Professional angler Ronnie Tice will be providing regular reports from the famed crappie (and more) fishery off the Mississippi River near Hughes. Horseshoe Lake is a natural oxbow lake, and the AGFC has an access dock there. While crappie may be slowing down elsewhere in the state, Tice says that crappie fishing is on fire these days. However, the temps are also on fire combined with the humidity, so make sure you keep yourself hydrated, but also remember to bring ice to keep your cooler cool when you keep your fish in there. Higher water temperatures (an ice chest with just water and no ice, that is) will kill the fish before you get out of there. Check out this nice crappie (left) out of Horseshoe Lake, and check out Tice’s reports on here as well as on Facebook. You can reach him at Horseshoe Lake Guide Service (901-687-6800).
