The Dominican Republic has ideal conditions for sport fishing.
Last year the country came in 10th place on the list of the world’s best places for marlin fishing. The list was prepared by Billfish Report, the only organization that reports on sports fishing around the world.
The Billfish Report points out that the Caribbean waters between La Romana and Punta Cana are “absolutely packed” with Blue Marlins.
The White Marlin season runs from March to July, while the Blue Marlin runs from July to September.
Although the 2014 season began, there’s still time to participate in some of the events related to the fishing season. Fishing enthusiasts may organize their participation around the season events.
The Cap Cana Marina
Situated in the Cap Cana tourism complex, the complex is just ten minutes from the Punta Cana International Airport, the country’s most important international airport with direct flights from the United States, Latin America and major European cities.
The 125,000 square-meter facility can handle 130 yachts up that are up to 250 feet long. The following tournaments will be held this season:

Situated on the southern coast of the Samana Peninsula, Puerto Bahia is located 35 minutes from the “El Catey” International Airport and two hours north of Santo Domingo.
This marina features 107 full-service berths for yachts up to 129 feet and a special dock for yachts up to 150 feet.
The Puerto Bahia Open Billfish Tournament is scheduled to take place from August 15-19.
This past March Puerto Marina hosted the third annual “Samana Bay Spring Regatta Puerto Bahia.” Teams from Spain, England, France, the U.S. Canada, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic participated in the event.
Casa de Campo Marina
Located in Casa de Campo, one of the Caribbean’s most exclusive hotels, the resort occupies more than 90,000 square meters. Designed by Italian architect Gianfranco Fini, the marina can accommodate 370 yachts up to 250 feet long.
