The catfish bite is going well, as evidenced by this photo provided to us by Johnny “Catfish” Banks, the operator of the Overcup Bait Shop and R.V. Park (501-354-9007) at Lake Overcup north of Morrilton on state Highway 9. Johnny said the water level is high by about 2 feet and clarity is good. Surface temperature is around 84 degrees, and that’s got the catfish and bass active. Crappie are also being caught in 6-8 feet of water around stumps and creek channels. Bream have slowed down a bit, but folks are still catching some good ones on crickets and redworms, he said. Use small bream or minnows on a jug or trotline for catfish like the ones this couple caught over the holiday weekend.
