Lisa Spencer, who owns Lisa’s Bait Shop in Benton, seems to know the hot spots. Her customers often stop in to see her even if they’re heading well beyond the Saline County spots. So it’s wise to perk up when she says Lake Ouachita has some slab crappie biting well these days. Take some crappie minnows over there. She also hears that Lake Nimrod “has been doing great for some more of my customers, but in this case the slab crappie are hungry for BASS minnows.
Sportsman’s White River Resort (870-453-2424) in north Arkansas said the White River clarity is clear, withminimum flow in the morning and high flow in the evening. Rainbow bite was excellent this week.
Tom Reynolds of STR Outfitters said the striper bite continues to be excellent on Norfork Lake but the stripers are concentrating within sight of the dam.
Roger Nesuda at Jolly Rogers Marina (501-868-5558) said largemouth bass are good to excellent this week on Lake Maumelle. The bass are about 10-20 feet deep while some are just outside of the grass.
Houston Wynn at Cane Creek State Park said fishing there is starting to hit its stride. The shad are rolling, and the fish are extremely active in pursuit. Bass fishing is in a fairly high gear, though fish aren’t necessarily massive, they can be found schooling at about 2 to 4 four pounds.
