For bass anglers, this is a good time to get bluegill-imitation swim baits and go searching for some hawgs. Roosevelt Lake has been a hot spot.
If you haven’t heard, lots of quality fishing opportunities will keep anglers’ reels singing during Memorial Day weekend — despite forest closures.
Weekend weather is looking to be great: warm and fairly calm and perfect for fishing during the holiday weekend. This is the tail end of of some of the best trout fishing in the high country.
Some of the best options in the White Mountains for trout fishing include: Big Lake; Greer lakes; Show Low Lake; Fool Hollow Lake; Luna Lake, Hulsey Lake, Woods Canyon Lake; Willow Springs Lake; Bear Canyon Lake; Carnero Lake; and various White Mountains streams.
Options in addition to trout include walleye fishing at Lyman Lake and smallmouth bass fishing at Show Low Lake. Quality smallmouth have been caught lately at Show Low Lake.
Want to catch a tiger trout? Tigers have already been stocked into Becker Lake (April 16), Carnero Lake (April 25), Kinnikinick Lake (May 5 and 11), and Willow Springs and Woods Canyon lakes (May 21).
In the Flagstaff and Williams area, anglers can try Ashurst Lake, Kinnikinick Lake; Kaibab Lake and Frances Short Pond. Water temperature at Kaibab on Tuesday was 62 degrees. Get to these northern Arizona soon: hotter water temperatures soon will slow trout fishing down.
Reservoirs along the Salt and Verde rivers on U.S. Forest Service land remain open, as well as lakes in the Coronado National Forest.

Free Fishing Day is Saturday, June 2
That day will be celebrated as part of National Fishing and Boating Week, which runs June 2-10.
